Beat “the resistance”
I gotta be real with you guys…sometimes the creator process beats me down.
Generally, I’ve systemized things pretty well to be able to pump out 1-2 pieces of video content for my Instagram each day in less than an hour.
Some days it’s really easy, the ideas a flowing, the words come out right the first time, and the edit is easy.
Other days (like today) there’s storage I need to clear, a sore throat, big mistakes forcing me to re-record, a bumbling over the words, a painstaking edit…
As Steven Pressfield shares in The War of Art, there’s always so much resistance to doing creative work. The resistance shows up in cunning, crafty ways to block us from the creativity we so desire.
Something I discovered early on in my creative journey was simply that some sessions are good and other sessions are bad. That’s just the way it is. I also discovered early on that ifI was able to push through the bad sessions, and still uncover a nugget of creative goodness, the next session is always a good one. Without fail.
It’s almost like the resistance doesn’t bother showing up that day, knowing you’re gonna beat it anyway.
Keep pushing, my friends. Keep creating. We’ve only got one life with which to do this, right?
P.S. I’m still gonna post two videos today.
