Want to level up? Get over yourself
One of the most difficult things about being a creator is learning to get over yourself.
We all got into this game because the feeling of turning ideas into reality is unmatched. The fact that a nebulous, foggy, misty idea in your head can somehow become a real life video or book or event or song is absolutely wild.
Like a drug, it’s euphoric.
And like a drug, it’s addictive and debilitating.
How many times have you rewatched your own content this week, beaming with satisfaction? If the answer is more times than you watched new content to gain new inspiration, that’s too much. I’ll confess: I do this all the time.
The key to leveling up as a creator is to get over yourself.
Yes, you created something, that’s great. Stop thinking it’s the greatest thing ever. Stop wasting time wondering why it hasn’t gone viral. Stop feeling bad for yourself that you’re not famous yet.
Get back in the game and make something better. Make something with such an angle, such a perspective that it’s undeniable. Your creations aren’t your perfect little angels. They’re wads of wet clay that must be smashed down again and again and again, unto you make something really interesting.
And then you gotta smash that one down again, too.
