Opinions
It is a wonderful thing to have opinions.
It’s one of the reasons I like writing so much, especially writing every day. We can all get away without opinions for a a few posts, just like we can get away without opinions for a few hours at a party. But writing and parties both become dull without a strong point of view. To be comfortable expressing yourself? That’s how you know you’ve found true friends, and true art.
I feel like my work on this blog doesn’t express enough of my opinions. To be frank, I’m often afraid. I don’t want to offend anyone, and I don’t want to be proven wrong. The world of self-help is full of giants with PHDs and bestsellers and world records. I’m just a guy. So I toss in an “often times,” and an “in my experience” to make sure I have an out.
I admire copywriters with a sharp angle, like Cole Schafer. I admire brands with a point of view, like Patagonia. I admire musicians with opinions, like The 1975.
I want to write like someone I admire. It’s time my work got a little more opinionated.
Hop in the sidecar, let’s go for a ride.
