Finding the Format

I wanted to make videos for years before I finally did. What was holding me back? I didn’t have the right format.

When IGTV dropped in 2018, I found a format on the platform where my audience lived. And everything made sense.

I wanted to write for years before I finally did. Again, I didn’t have the right format. Then I discovered Seth Godin’s daily blog, and I realized that short insight snippets can be useful to people.

The strategy was equally important. When I made videos for IGTV, I decided to release only one season. I shot seven episodes, edited them all, then I announced and released them one by one. By doing all the work on the front end, before I made the announcement, I was confident I could deliver the whole season on time without risking a delay.

If you have ambitions to create, but you keep getting in your own way, you probably just need to find a format and strategy that fits your lifestyle. Consistent creativity is as much a scheduling feat as a motivational one.
