Velocity and Momentum

Velocity and momentum are especially important when working on large projects.

Velocity, to make as much progress as you can in a short window of time. This helps you outrun doubt and imposter syndrome.

Momentum, to burst through the blocks and walls that you inevitably find in your way.

Someone told me recently that they’re working on a 30-minute video edit, but now the project has gotten so big, and it’s been so long, that they’re scared to open up the project file. They’ve lost velocity, and their momentum is dwindling.

You can build velocity by designing your schedule to be conducive to speed. Design a short term sprint or challenge to help you make serious progress quickly.

You can build momentum by building out the meaning behind your project. Why are you doing this? What motivation runs deep enough to help you knock down the walls that lie ahead?

Good luck out there.
