Turning Denial into Acceptance
I’ve had a pile of clean laundry sitting on my armchair for a week.
I haven’t folded it.
I hate folding laundry. This again? I have two weeks worth of underwear and a bunch of extra shirts that I hate wearing just so I don’t have to do laundry.
Meanwhile, I wash the dishes in my sink every morning. I empty the dishwasher whenever it’s clean. I keep a clean kitchen so I can cook freely whenever I like.
So I’m in denial about the laundry but I fully accept the mundane rhythm of the dishes.
This makes no sense. They’re practically the same thing. They take about the same amount of time, and they’re both simple, mindless tasks.
We all have tasks we like and dislike—ones we avoid and ones we turn into habits. I’m starting to think about how I can use my dishes approach for the laundry (along with other things I avoid in my life).
Won’t you join me?
