The poker table of dreams

Are you at the poker table of dreams? Have they dealt you a hand? Are you at least in the game? 

So many people claim to have a dream, but they aren’t sitting at the table. They don’t have a chance to win, even by a stroke of luck or genius or happenstance. 

You don’t need to bet it all. You don’t need to go all-in. But are you at least giving yourself a chance to win? 

This is what I love about creators and artists and freelancers. We may not be making the enviable salary today. We may not be driving the cool car, or taking the coastal vacations. 

But we’re keeping ourselves in the game.

These are my kind of people. 

I’ve said it before: if you can stay in the game long enough, eventually, you’ll learn all the little lessons you need to learn for all your creative ambitions to come to life. 

And this is the game. Smart freelancing is like smart poker. Managing your bank roll. Making smart bets. Grinding out the little hands. Not getting in too deep, too early. 

Then, when the hand finally goes your way, betting big with no regrets.
