PSA: post short-form video content

I often encounter photographers, graphic designers, and writers who refuse to post short-form video content. They miss the old days of Instagram, when images were king, and their content performed without them having to try very hard.

Well, my friends, this is the new era of social media. In 2015, when you were killing it on Instagram, and you thought any brand who wouldn't hire you to help them look good on Instagram was stupid...this is just like that.

The media landscape has changed. Authenticity within video is what the algorithms want. This is what performs and gains audiences. By hesitating, you sound just like the people you worked so hard to convince about Instagram back in 2015.

This doesn't mean you need to start dancing, lip-syncing, following trends, vlogging, or being a lifestyle guru.

You simply need to find a format to showcase your work in short-form video. This could be a quick carousel with music. This could be a time-lapse behind the scenes shot. This could be a voice over. This could be text on screen over a single clip.

There are hundreds of formats that are easy to create, that will have a low impact on your process. Buy a $15 phone tripod. Record a time lapse. Post it. Do it again.

This isn't rocket science. But the reason it feels so difficult is because of resistance. You’re resistant to change and you wish things would go back to the way they were. But remember: the reason this opportunity exists for you in the first place is because things changed from the way they were back in 2015.

Accept it. Take notes. Try a few formats. Post a few videos.

I guarantee you'll thank me in a few months.
