For those who feel lost…
When I was 9 years old, my dad volunteered me to read a Christmas story aloud to our church.
When I was 11 years old my dad bought me and my brothers a camcorder (specifically, the Canon MV700 Mini DV, with the little tapes).
When I was 14 years old, I started a band with my brother and my best friend.
When I was 16 years old, my dad volunteered me to PA announce my high school’s football games.
When I was 18 years old, I started filming travel vlogs with my best friend (the same guy I started a band with earlier).
When I was 20 years old, I got a job at my college hosting open mic nights for students.
When I was 21 years old, I pitched my bosses on running the social media accounts for the college’s campus events (a job that didn’t even exist yet).
When I was 24 years old, I had the crazy idea to start writing blogs and making videos…
I tell you all this because, now, it’s so clear to me how I got here.
I produce content for a living. I write to an eager audience of creatives. I love my life.
But it didn’t always feel this way.
For a long time, I felt lost.
I felt like I was floating from hobby to hobby, trying to find my footing in a slippery world. I felt like I was yelling from the rooftops, just for people to tell me to “get down from there!”
Because in the middle of all that, I failed a lot.
I started businesses that never made a sale. I hosted events that no one showed up to. I started podcasts that never got off the ground. I asked people to lunch, then got ghosted.
So if you’re feeling lost… I know how you feel.
If you’re feeling late…
If you’re feeling like you might not ever find what you’re here to do…
Don’t give up.
Because eventually, if you stick with it, everything will make sense. It will all come together, if you keep at it. I can see all the threads in my life that led me here, strung all the way back to my childhood. Even the silliest, weirdest things have a connection to what I’m doing today.
Don’t give up.
