Taking A Break From Social Media
Thing a break from social media doesn’t have to be a big deal.
It doesn’t have to be a big deal to your audience, and it doesn’t have to be a big deal to you.
If you decide to take a week off, it’s unlikely most of your audience will notice. This isn’t a reflection of you or your content, but of the platforms. There’s an endless stream of content, personalized to each person. If you don’t add to the stream this week, no one will be knocking on your door. They’ll welcome you when you come back. Everything will be the same.
If you decide you need a little break, either for productivity or personal health, it doesn’t need to be a big decision. Once you remove the apps from your phone, and set up url redirects, you’ll realize that it’s much easier than you imagined. You’ll probably discover that your brain has been yearning for a little space, and it will start developing great ideas.
If you can take a break any time you want, that’s when you realize you have power over social media. A step back helps you view the whole thing more objectively. If you’re hesitant to take a break because you feel a fear of missing out, or you feel like your friends will disown you, that might be a good indicator that you need to take a break. Here’s the thing: you will miss out. (On a few memes this week.) But you’ll also discover new havens of imagination that your brain has been waiting to explore for the past few years.
If you haven’t taken a break in a while, take one today. It couldn’t hurt.
