Wisdom Is A Balance
There are futuristic thinkers. Masters of delayed gratification. Those who save everything for retirement. They don’t enjoy the moment because they’re working toward a goal decades in the future.
There are present-minded thinkers. Masters of living in the moment. Those who breathe everything in, with no regard for what’s coming next. They don’t plan for the future because they’re completely engrossed in the present.
Both thinkers are foolish. We don’t know if this is our last year alive. Busses come out of nowhere these days, as do viruses and hurricanes and cancers. If that wasn’t enough, this capitalistic society can be ruthless. We need to set ourselves up for long-term success and prosperity however we can.
Wisdom is a catwalk. It’s a balance. It’s one step at a time to avoid slipping into the pitfalls of foolish binary thinking.
If I die young, I want my friends and family to know that I spent time doing things I loved during my last week alive. And, when I likely live a long time, I want to have resources to share with my friends and family, to help them do things they love every week they spend alive.
Every week, spend time building a future and enjoying the moment. This is wisdom.
