Hard Phone Calls

The more I try to become a linchpin, the more I have to make hard phone calls. Things need to get done quickly, and people need to give me answers for that to happen. So phone calls it is.

Phone calls can be scary for me sometimes, especially if I don’t know what to say. I don’t want to bother people, I don’t want to sound like an idiot, and I don’t want to say something wrong if I haven’t had time to think about it.

Recently, I’ve been trying to get better at them by making sure I have a game plan. If I can write down or think of 2-3 main points I need to get across, then I feel a lot more confident. I also try to think of my first sentence before I get on the phone, just to make sure I get off to a good start.

Ultimately, phone calls have a distinct personable advantage over emails because you can hear and convey tone, which can have a huge positive impact.

Good luck out there on the phone! You’re going to do great.
