Can $200 Save You Millions?
Can a $200 gesture save you millions?
On Friday, Chicago Cubs star Kris Bryant was traded to the San Francisco Giants. He flew to San Francisco on Saturday and started at third base on Sunday.
Waiting in Bryant’s hotel room were three Giants jerseys with his name on them, for him, his wife, and 1-year old son.
Bryant is an interesting spot. He’s a former MVP who brought Chicago their first World Series Trophy in over 80 years. But his contract with them was ending in 2 months, and they weren’t close enough to have a realistic shot at making the playoffs. So Chicago traded Bryant for a couple of young players from San Francisco.
“I’ve had an unbelievable first day. It’s blown my expectations,” Bryant said about the hospitality from the Giants staff.
At the end of the year, Kris Bryant will be a free agent. With his resume, he’ll be able to get about $100 million for maybe 4-5 years of work with almost any team who has the piggy bank to pay him.
Giants fans are hoping he’ll pick San Francisco.
And hypothetically, if he loves playing in San Fransisco, he should be willing to take a pay cut of a few million dollars, right?
Nothing is official yet. But if Bryant signs with the Giants next year, whoever laid out those jerseys on Bryant’s hotel bed should get a big Christmas bonus.
