6 Content Ideas For Your Music YouTube Channel
Do you have a new song coming out? Do you have a new music video coming out? In the modern age of music promotion, every launch should be a celebration. Here are 6 content ideas to for your music YouTube channel. Maximizing your new song or video with supporting content not only gives you a little bit more thumbnail real estate in the fertile soil of YouTube, but it also gives your super-fans a way to connect with your music for years to come.
Music Video
Music videos capture the visual essence and story of what you always imagined your song to be. By providing your audience with a visual experience, you’ll give them memories and characters to identify your music with. Some of my favorite music videos have inspired entire events in my life through their visuals, like this one.
Behind-The-Scenes Content
It just takes a little bit of smart phone filming on set to capture enough content for a behind-the-scenes video. BTS videos give your audience a chance to connect with the real you. They get to see what your personality is really like, and how hard you worked to put the music video together for them.
Genius Style Lyric Breakdown Video
You can stay general or get personal, but the fact remains–doing a breakdown of your own lyrics is the best way for fans to understand your original intent. Some lyrics are very specific. If that’s the case, tell the story behind them, because they might be too close for fans to really see what was going on. If the lyrics are really general, talk about the feelings that inspired them.
Reaction Style Video Breakdown
If you worked with a director, photographer, or DP on your music video, do a reaction video with them while you both watch the video. Fans will want to know the thought process behind the shots, and the funny moments that didn’t get caught on camera in the BTS video. These are easy. Set up a camera, start a screen recording on your computer, and pause anytime someone has something to say. It’s easy to get 15-30 mutes of content doing this.
Song Project File Breakdown
These are great ways to show your recording process, and all the layers that often go unheard by causal listeners. Break down each percussion layer, the effects on your vocals, and the cool bass riff that they probably hadn’t heard. This content isn’t for everyone, but the real music fans will eat it up and learn a lot.
Live Version of The Song
Give fans another version of the song to hear. People are fond of stripped down versions, and don’t mid mediocre audio quality with these. Even a decent performance on an iPhone video can get a new layer of emotion and meaning across to your audience.
The wonderful thing about YouTube is that content can stay evergreen. If a new fan stumbles on your music when you’ve made it big in a few years, finding these old videos will be a gold mine for them. So press record. Your fans are waiting.
