How To Have An Efficient Personal Connection

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been building out a network of content creators for a client. Videographers, photographers, editors, podcasters. All with an understanding of social. (If this is you, please send me an email).

This sounds cool, and the end result is, but it takes a lot of repetitive emails and phone calls along the way. I’m on pace to have 25 15-minute briefing calls this week. With so many calls each week, there’s a certain feeling of rinse and repeat. But making a personal connection is important to increasing interest and buy-in from each creator.

I’ve developed a quick way to have a personal call with each creator, while still getting my message across efficiently. Here’s how.

One of the best questions you can ask someone is “what are you doing today?” This question immediately takes someone out of their head and into the moment. As soon as this question is asked, you can see the professional glaze lift from their eyes. They start to think about their personal life. Once they share a bit about their personal life, ask them a few questions about that. People love If you can slip a joke or a bit of humor in there, making a laughter connection

From here, your job is to lay out the agenda of the call, and relay the information as effectively as possible. No need to reinvent the wheel here. There is a best way to communicate something, and if you found it in a previous call, just say the same thing again. This will help you save mental energy, and make sure everyone you talk to is on the same page.

Finally, in follow up texts and emails, make reference to the personal tidbits they shared on the call. Usually people will just talk about the kinds of projects they’re working on, so wish them luck on those.

Great sales strategy is built on personal connection and efficient communication.

Good luck with your own endeavors!
