Happiness is in the Middle

Happiness is in the middle. It’s somewhere between great expectations and full acceptance.

Some people expect perfection. They aim for everything to go 100% the way they want it to go, and they are disappointed when it doesn’t. You may have met someone like this. They are always pointing out small flaws in things, and can’t seem to really enjoy a moment.

Other people accept just about anything. They know that nothing can be perfect, so they give up hope in anything going right at all. You may have met someone like this. They are still dating the person who doesn’t respect them, still working at the job they dislike, still waiting for permission to improve themselves.

You also may have met a happy person. A happy person is someone who can enjoy a moment, even when it’s only 80% as good as it could’ve been. A happy person is someone who refuses to accept poor treatment of themselves and others, and actively works to improve their situation. A happy person doesn’t allow their great expectations to stamp out the beauty that is. A happy person won’t stand by when negativity is present–they’ll either work to bring positivity, or they’ll leave.

If you feel unhappy, ask yourself: do I expect too much? Do I accept too much? How can I get more towards the middle?
