The New Paper - Subscription Review
If you’re looking for a more concise way to get your news each day, I highly recommend The New Paper. The New Paper is a simple, text-message based news round up, sent every weekday morning. They’ll send between five and seven short descriptions of newsworthy events in the US, and globally.
I’ve been a happy subscriber for over a year now. l’ll share some of the reasons I appreciate it so much.
It doesn’t get lost in my inbox
I’ve seen email-based daily news round ups before. I would like to be into them (because they’re free), but I have a habit of letting them just pile up unread, until I delete them all at once because they’re flooding my inbox.
I think part of the reason for this is because my email inbox is a place where I get work done. Scrolling through the news doesn’t directly affect my day-to-day work, so I skip those emails while I’m working. After a few weeks, there is a stack of unread emails in my trash folder.
The New Paper is text message based, which means I usually read it right when I wake up. They also have an email version too, but I use the text-based service.
There’s no click bait
Many modern news sites make money by selling ads on their website, which leads to click-bait titles and weak articles. The New Paper charges a small subscription, so I can be sure that the descriptions and headlines they’re sending me are not misleading.
It takes all of 60 seconds to read each morning, and if I want to read more, I can click the link to read the full article. Even if I don’t read the articles, the short descriptions educate me enough to not be left out.
There’s not too much information
I hate having to ask about a newsworthy event from someone who is telling me about it. They’ll usually respond by saying something like, “I can’t believe you didn’t hear about this!” That never feels good. But with thousands of articles published every day, how am I supposed to keep up?
Before The New Paper, I didn’t. Now, I’m always aware of any great events, tragedies, or releases.
They share tech, business, entertainment, and sports news, too
Many days, there are enough things going on in politics or global events for The New Paper to simply focus on those. But not every day. So they’ll share information about corporate IPOs, American sporting events, new tech launches, and celebrity deaths. This helps keep me informed and conversational each day.
It’s affordable
At $5 per month, I feel like I get way more value out of my subscription cost than I’m paying. I think the main reason they charge a subscription is because mass text message platforms charge a few cents per text message. So their distribution isn’t free. Like I mentioned before, news services that charge don’t have to get you to click on things to make money. They can just focus on the most helpful information out there. I’m happy to pay for that.
Closing
All in all, I highly recommend The New Paper. I tell most of my friends about it, so I figured it would be helpful for my readers to learn about it too. You can check them out here.
Thanks for reading!
