Create A Special Workspace

The past 3 nights I’ve stayed up late writing The Marketing Spectrum blogs. After a full day of work, kicking my brain into gear again after dinner isn’t supposed to be easy or fun. But it was. How? I created a special workspace.

When I graduated college, I was working at a coffee shop and then building my freelance client base at night. Without much margin for failure, I had to be totally focused–despite the stress–to connect with and pitch potential clients. This is when I discovered my special workspace.

With a single lamp on in the bedroom, a makeshift desk, and pop punk music loud in my headphones, my special workspace was born. Working so hard under stress wasn’t supposed to be easy or fun. So I made it fun.

The special workspace has taken many forms over the years. A garage. A card table. My parents’ dining room. Doesn’t matter. I can put my headphones in, turn up the music, and focus.

Now I can create this space anywhere, whenever I need to.

Fall in love with the work. Find something that makes it a little more fun during the late nights and early mornings. And do what needs to get done.
