Generosity Breeds Connection

In the summer of 2015, I was on a cycling team, riding from Seattle to New York City to raise money for Charity: Water.

I drove the support van.

Along the way we slept on couches, church pews, and kitchen floors. People we met offered whatever they had to complete strangers for absolutely nothing in return. Not even lasting friendship. We were gone the next morning.

Even though we had nothing to offer our hosts, we often experienced the most amazing connection with them. I can recall deeply peaceful evenings on wrap-around porches in Montana. Belly laughs around fire pits in Idaho. Joyrides at golden hour over Pennsylvania in a 4-seater Cessna.

In everything, generosity breeds connection. The deeper the generosity, the more pure the motives, the less the potential outcome, the deeper the connection.

How can we incorporate more generosity into our business and our life?
